That's a pretty tall claim, but it's one that Optibelt, a 125-year-old German company can make with pride and stand behind with conviction. It's because their V-belts aren't made the same way ordinary V-belts are made, not even close.

Normally, V-belts are manufactured as a giant rubber band, built up in layers and then cut into individual belts. (Sometimes, as many as 100 belts are cut from a single band.) There are so many inconsistencies built in to this method of manufacture that it's difficult to produce belts of consistent length, weight, density and width. It used to be so bad that, after a batch of belts was produced, they would be measured and assembled into "matched sets" that would fall within RMA/MPTA standards. Optibelt was the first company in the world to do away with "matching numbers" by introducing their S=C Plus concept (SetConstant). It involved making every belt individually under carefully controlled conditions. The result changed the way the world looks at V-belts.

Today, most belt manufacturers have improved their process to the point where all of their belts fall within RMA/MPTA standards, eliminating the need for matching numbers. But RMA/MPTA standards are still much more "tolerant" than Optibelt's standards.

Think about the advantage of having belts that are manufactured with such a high degree of uniformity. Power transmission is more efficient as belts all work together to pull their own weight. Sheave wear is reduced. Machinery runs quieter. Belt life is extended.
